Poem – 2021 – He brought me a cup of water

Poem – 2021 – He brought me a cup of water

He brought me a cup of water.
It was wet, dripping slightly
Due to a stumble or two when he
Had climbed up two flights of stairs.

A cup of water, unasked for, yet given
Because I had developed a headache
And needed to rest on the bed for a moment.
A sweet, caring gesture from my wonderful child.

A cup of water.
A gift so much beyond what it seemed.
The gift of knowing that my child
Loves so strongly with his kind, caring soul.

He brought me a cup of water
And brightened my world
With it. And then a kiss and
A smile full of love and a hug—

As full as the Cup was when he first filled it–
                                 completed the remedy.

Poem – Sauntering up quietly

Poem – Sauntering up quietly

How is having something like this
sneaking up on you GOOD?

I certainly didn’t’ expect it.
Are not these things
supposed to slam into you?

Instead, it sauntered up quietly
with a gentle hand
and wrap you carefully in his arms
until you suddenly realized–
Even though you are miles away
you feel like you have come home.
And you still feel the warmth of his embrace.

Poem – Patio (Draft) by Galen Skye

Poem – Patio (Draft) by Galen Skye

Patio

You build it together.
A new outdoor space for
Entertaining, play and peace.
You build it with sweat, aching backs
Even a little bit of blood and a few
Tears of Frustration.

When it is done, though, there is
Accomplishment,
Satisfaction,
and Exhaustion.
But that is not even the beginning.
As it turns out, you created so much more.

It is an oasis on a troubled day.
A fortress, ready with turrets and
A lookout post.
It is a spacecraft, hovering over
Strange people and worlds.
It is no longer a layer of bricks.
It is a time machine taking you to
Fascinating places filled with
Adventures just waiting to be explored.

This place, this simple patio, becomes
Solace and hope during a complicated time.
And as the smile on your son’s face brightens
With imagination, it lights up your world.

Then, when the storms roll in and
We scramble to put things away, and
The wind kicks up,
A patio it becomes again,
Until another day, when imagination reigns and
The possibilities take flight.

Draft (2019) – Trick or Treat

Draft (2019) – Trick or Treat

Winter is early this year.
The wet, cold snow blows
Fiercely as we wander from
House to house—
Weather only curbs our urchins.
Their quest for joy fulfilled.
Yet, as the slush streaks sideways in
Strong winds that could lift
An Umbrella and whisk us away,
They laugh and vie for the next piece.
Until we near the house…
Suddenly the promise of warmth,
Hot chocolate, cupcakes and toys
Appeals more.
Trick or treat?!

What’s with Galen Skye

What’s with Galen Skye

Hi everyone,

New Website
So obviously, we have moved my site to its own domain and I am really excited about merging my Poetry with my Fiction and Essays. With a poetry book coming out over the summer and two fiction collaborations happening, it just seems like the best time.

Expanded Content
Over the past couple of years I have been asked if I could post about BEING a poet along with posting my poems, and so since people have asked, that’s what they will get. I am looking forward to sharing a lifetime of anecdotes on being a poet, even the part where it snuck up on me that I was!
Meanwhile, I have several new poems to post this week, and I hope you enjoy them and that you enjoy some of the essays that I will be posting from years past. They are going to be archived on the site and when we get them up, I’ll let you know!

Poetry Readings
Mind you, this is going to be a new adventure, but given that I have been recording readings of some of my sonnets (using Original Pronunciation for Shakespeare), I am starting to get a better feel for doing it and a slight better comfort with the entire idea.  What it comes down to, is that I even I prefer to sometimes hear a poet read their words, so why should I be surprised that others want that of me, too.  Keep an eye out!

Whispers in Twilight
My upcoming book “Whispers in Twilight”, a collection of poems written through out my life time up until now, spanning from 1985 (I was 11) to 2016 should be ready for Launch by August. We had some technical difficulties, but I’m feeling pretty confident that I can get things going now that the sun is shining and the ice has melted away.
As things come together, we will have more information, some promotions and a lot of poetry written on the fly to keep me from loosing my mind!

Have a wonderful day and enjoy Spring (it just got here in Michigan.)
